KINGSWINFORD, UK: British boutique electronic instruments innovator Analogue Solutions is proud to announce that it is the sole stockist of the first batch of the newly-launched Vostok2020 — the latest (fourth) incarnation of creator (and company founder) Tom Carpenter’s semi-modular masterpiece that takes some of the best parts of its iconic Vostok V2 and V3 Deluxe predecessors and brings them together as an augmented ANALOGUE POWER SYNTH fit for a new decade — as of January 13...
As implied by the tell-tale ANALOGUE POWER SYNTH subtitle boldly blazoned across a spacious front panel that knowingly nods and winks at its Russian ‘roots’ — for the benefit of the uninitiated, Analogue Solutions’ (decade-plus) long-lasting Vostok semi-modular synthesizer series is named after a series of six manned Soviet orbiting spacecraft, the first of which, when launched in April 1961, carried the first man in space (Yuri Gagarin), Vostok2020 takes one giant leap for ‘synthkind’ as Tom Carpenter’s semi-modular masterpiece takes some of the best parts of its iconic Vostok V2 and V3 Deluxe predecessors and brings them together as an augmented analogue semi-modular monster fit for a new decade!
Naming notwithstanding, Vostok2020’s venerable sonic footprint faithfully follows Analogue Solutions’ 25-plus-year (musical) mission of producing products with a great vintage analogue sound for which the celebrated company name itself is inextricably linked, largely thanks to the real analogue circuits involved. Indeed, when reiterating that ‘real analogue’ wording in its introduction to the Vostok2020’s user manual, Analogue Solutions state that entire audio path — including the real mechanical SPRING REVERB (reliant on three actual springs) — and all of the extensive modulation signal routings — courtesy of the flexible MATRIXSYNTH matrix panel (reminiscent of the breakthrough British EMS VCS3, which made musical history upon its introduction in 1969 by being the first commercially portable synth available anywhere in the world, thanks to its innovative modular matrix-based patchboard dispensing with the telephone exchange-like cabling of other much larger modular systems in favour of making space-saving connections with removable coloured pins) — are absolutely analogue using circuits based on superlative-sounding Seventies-vintage designs, so no quantisation for CPU (Central Processing Unit) reading required! Reality dictates that some essential elements are digital, however — hence the MIDI-CV/NOTE SEQUENCER section (acting as a MIDI-to-CV convertor and a simple yet effective note loop sequencer) and associated rear-side MIDI T (Thru) and I (In) connections, yet Vostok2020 essentially is real analogue through and through. The resultant sound benefit is immediately apparent. And it is powerful, perfectly entitled to that ANALOGUE POWER SYNTH subtitling, supplying all the often-needed music electronics circuitry necessary to make a potent music synthesizer in one compact — 450mm (W) x 145mm (D) x 305mm (H) — forward-facing desktop module. (It is also rack-mountable when replacing its wood side panels with optional 7U rack ears.)
Exactly what is it that makes Analogue Solutions’ Vostok2020 so special? Certainly it sounds as good as analogue gets. Given that it is designed by company founder Tom Carpenter, this should surely not surprise. As a fervent fan of electronic music and also an active electronic musician himself, he naturally knows a thing or two about programming synthesizers. So his latest creation clearly was not simply the result of engineering design decisions driven by a steering committee of besuited number-crunchers, compulsorily constrained to maximise profit for faceless shareholders. Far from it, in fact. Fortunately for anyone willing to invest in this semi-modular masterpiece, its extensive modulation options and the resulting wide range of tones that it can consequently create
have all been carefully thought through. Spanning synth leads and huge-sounding basses through to percussion, effects, and beyond into the weird and wonderful world of modular-style sounds... with Vostok2020 almost anything can be creatively crafted to sound as good as analogue gets!
Giving the (almost) all-analogue — remember: real analogue! — game away, Vostok2020’s spacious, space-age-looking front panel puts some fanciful features that are all (patchable) at arm’s length, listed as follows: MIDI-CV/NOTE SEQUENCER — see above; VCO 1, VCO 2, and VCO 3 (with sawtooth, square, and pulse width wave shapes); VCO-patchable RING MOD (ring modulation); two voltage-controlled low frequency oscillators — VC LFO 1 and VC LFO 2 — each with sawtooth, inverse sawtooth, square, and triangle wave shapes, the frequency of which can be controlled by the F CV (x15) input; looping eight-step analogue CV/GATE SEQUENCER; moving coil SIGNAL METER — more for control voltage than audio; JOY STICK controller for realtime control (with patchable RANGE X and RANGE Y controls); SPRING REVERB — see above; EXTERNAL sockets (for patching signals into or out of the MATRIXSYNTH panel); two ADSR-style envelope generators — EG 1 and EG 2 — that can also act as an LFO with programmable wave shape; SH/NOISE sample-and-hold and white noise generator; six-input audio or CV mono MIXER; MULTIMODE FILTER/VCA 12dB diode ladder filter, similar to Korg’s classic Seventies-vintage MS20 semi-modular synthesizer, with separate voltage-controlled amplifier (that needs to be patched in to operate); and (above- mentioned) MATRIXSYNTH matrix panel with an LED (Light Emitting Diode) inside the socket of each signal destination... design-wise, achieving that cool feature in an analogue synthesizer was far from easy, unlike in the digital domain!
Far from shortchanging on the cool and fanciful features front, Vostok2020’s new decade-designated design will certainly keep even the most ardent analogue aficionado musically occupied throughout the ‘Twenties’ and beyond! Best get patching, then... though not necessarily so since Vostok2020 is, after all, a semi-modular analogue affair. And also a monstrous masterpiece!
The first Vostok2020 batch is in production and available to order for purchase — priced at £3,200.00 GBP (excluding tax and delivery) — directly from Analogue Solutions via the dedicated Vostok2020 webpage here: https://www.analoguesolutions.com/vostok2020

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: first available as Synthix back in 2011 before being relaunched to widespread critical acclaim in 2015 as Syn’X 2, audio software company XILS-lab is proud to announce availability of Syn’X 2 v2.5 — elevating its exciting- sounding subtractive synthesis polytimbral powerhouse to higher heights with a welcomed upgrade duly delivering several serious additions — as of January 6...
With origins dating back to its original release as XILS-lab’s third soft synth, Syn’X 2 is a polytimbral subtractive synthesis powerhouse, paying homage to the legendary (early-Eighties-era) Elka Synthex — much loved by the likes of famous French electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre, who still uses it to this day to create the distinctive sound of his onstage laser harp — from an original-sounding sonic standpoint with the striking sound of clear and punchy DCOs (Digitally-Controlled Oscillators), but brilliantly balanced against a multilayer card-based architecture that is inspired by similarly sophisticated hardware analogue synthesizers — such as Oberheim’s mighty (mid-Eighties-era) Matrix 12 — to create a powerful and complex virtual analogue instrument fit for 21st Century discerning DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) users. Ultimately, by drawing its inspiration from two distinctive design classics, it combines eight fully-independent layers with multitimbral flexibility; up to 72 oscillators; eight exciting-sounding ZDF (Zero Delay Feedback) filters; 32 envelopes; 32 LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators); eight glides; and more than 500 possible modulation combinations — ‘hardwired’ or user-customisable — per patch!
Put it this way: with those eight layers combined with true unison, users can creatively think about using a unison mode that allows them to sculpt not just the number of oscillators but also subtle modulation variations for each of the hundreds of available parameters, including filters, envelopes, LFOs, stereo position, sync, ring modulation, frequency modulation, and more besides. Above and beyond that, though, it is perfectly possible to apply the creative concept to different layers to create complex layered sounds, such as animated epic pads, keyboard performances (where every component reacts to velocity in a different way), as well as splits that creatively combine arpeggios and bass parts, to name but a few exciting-sounding examples.
Several serious additions to the Syn’X 2 v2.5 upgrade elevate this exciting-sounding subtractive synthesis polytimbral powerhouse to higher heights — namely, a new natural-sounding vintage reverb effect with high-pass filter; customisable signal path for all effects and keyboard performances, so the chorus could be positioned before the reverb or visa-versa, for example, or the chorus could be applied to a lower bass split while an upper pad feeds into the phaser and then the reverb; single-window integrated preset manager for finding patches in seconds, managing presets and sound banks, and creating customised tags; revamped 1,536-pixel-wide GUI (Graphical User Interface) with Easy and Complex modes; more factory presets with widened scope for covering more musical styles; powerful InterLayer Modulation, whereby layers can now source modulations from other layers; and integrated help engine. Meanwhile, MacOS 10.15 Catalina compatibility is a given from the outset.
On the face of it, Syn’X 2 v2.5 fancifully frames an amazing vintage sound in a modern setting with hitherto unavailable possibilities, but better than its predecessors’ already amazing features. Fire it up in a DAW host running on the latest MacOS or Windows (7, 8, 10) to add some seriously creative firepower to modern-day music creations!
Syn’X v2.5 is available to purchase as a USB eLicenser or iLok (1 and 2 dongle hardware or software) protected plug-in priced at €169.00 EUR from XILS-lab from here: https://www.xils-lab.com/products/syn-x-p-134.html (Note that the Syn’X v2.5 upgrade is free for owners of Syn’X 2.)
Syn’X v2.5 can be directly downloaded as a multi-format (AAX, AU, VST) 64-bit virtual instrument plug-in for Mac (OS X 10.7 and later) and Windows (7, 8, 10) from here: https://www.xils-lab.com/products/syn-x-p-134/download.html

LONDON, UK: Spitfire Audio is proud to announce ALBION NEO — neatly turning the proverbial page to open a new decade- dawning next chapter in its bestselling ALBION... series sample libraries and virtual instruments as a modern cinematic collection centred around a chamber-sized orchestra with a super-intimate string section split by divisi across all articulations to offer anyone access to the incredible definition and expression of classic and progressive techniques creatively captured in the beautiful resonance of the hallowed (Lyndhurst) Hall at London’s legendary AIR Studios, successfully accompanied by an encyclopaedic range of progressive synths, loops, and textures totalling over 300 carefully curated presets to address an exciting cultural shift in orchestral music and film scoring spurred by a demand for a closer, more emotive, hybrid sound suited to TV, films, and beyond — on preorder as of the first day of The 2020 NAMM Show, January 16-19, Anaheim, CA, USA, where the sound-specialising British music technology company is exhibiting, and available from January 23…
Like life itself, the film scoring landscape is constantly evolving. With the rise of streaming platforms, TV shows and independent films are just as big as blockbusters, and directors are now looking for closer, more emotive, sophisticated soundscapes. Artists and composers are producing more progressive, daring, and emotive works within the film world and beyond as a result. Reality bites, but Spitfire Audio has been part of this new wave with its consistent creation of original tools that push the boundaries of orchestral music. Indeed, its groundbreaking EVO... and SWARM... series and always-creative collaborations with pioneering composers and visionaries — from BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award-winning Icelandic composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer par excellence Ólafur Arnalds (famed for his original score to top-rating television series Broadchurch as well as several standout studio albums) to The London Contemporary Orchestra (one of the UK’s most innovative and respected ensembles, promoting the best new music and cross-arts collaborations to an ever-widening audience) — allow anyone to surf the musical wave with the likes of Ólafur Arnalds... or even become the next ‘new waver’! With ALBION NEO, Spitfire Audio has exquisitely encapsulated this new and alluring revolution, taking everything the sound-specialising British music technology company collectively learned during its decade-long sampling journey and applying it to its super-successful ALBION blueprint as a new decade-dawning next chapter.
Central to ALBION NEO is its inbuilt NEO Orchestra. As is the case with all of Spitfire Audio’s ALBION... series sample libraries and virtual instruments, it is designed to be both instantly playable and easy to use, with all instruments in each section spread across the keyboard. Creatively capturing phenomenal performances from a group of 36 world-class first-call session musicians playing 54 classic and unconventional articulations, it has been carefully crafted by Paris- and London-based British award-winning composer and orchestrator Ben Foskett working with Spitfire Audio Production Manager Harry Wilson, and recorded digitally at 96 kHz via a two-inch Studer tape machine using priceless valve and ribbon mics routed through Neve ‘AIR Montserrat’ remote mic preamps into a 96-channel Neve 88R large-format mixing console by renowned recording and mix engineer Jake Jackson in the hallowed (Lyndhurst) Hall at London’s legendary AIR Studios.
Technically, the NEO Orchestra itself is made up of a super-intimate chamber-sized orchestra, recorded as two divisi string sections — Band A - 12 (3, 2, 2, 3, 2) and Band B - 11 (3, 2, 2, 3, 1) — duly designed to complement each other and create interesting combinations when played together, with a specially orchestrated chorus of seven Brass — including 2 Horns, 2 Flugelhorns, 2 Euphoniums, and 1 Bass Trombone (with Detuned, Pulses, and Reblows articulations) and six Woodwinds — featuring Flute 1 - dbl Alto, Flute 2 - dbl Bass, Clarinet in Bb - dbl Bass, Bass Clarinet, Sax 1 - Alto dbl Baritone, and Sax 2 - Tenor dbl Bass (with Long Octaves, Long Swells, and Short Marcatos articulations) — that are played so soft that they sound like a breathy harmonium. Having said that, the emotion of each performance has been captured in intense detail, with Close, Close Ribbon, Tree, Ambient, and Outrigger multi-mic control and two specially curated mixes to choose from..
Furthermore, ALBION NEO has helpfully been taken to new dimensions by Spitfire Audio’s award-winning engineers enhancing those organic NEO Orchestra recordings to create Segla Textures — 85 organic and electronic curated presets (housed in Spitfire Audio’s totally tweakable and dynamic eDNA engine to allow almost endless creative possibilities as the go-to tool for creating pads and effects that perfectly bridge the electronic and orchestral, now including a new built-in arpeggiator and classic Spitfire Audio techniques such as Super Sul Tasto, Tremolo Harmonics, and Col Legno, as well as more progressive techniques such as Seagulls, Pulses, and Slow Detunes, all available for customisation); Stephenson’s Steam Band — a collection of modern, cinematic, hybrid synth pads, and textures (also housed in the eDNA engine as 108 uniquely curated presets presented as a vast ‘steam synthesiser’ made from those organic NEO Orchestra recordings and a selection of Spitfire Audio co-founder and composer Christian Henson’s rare vintage synths, fed through his modular rig and an admirable array of pedals and vintage tape machines by Christian Henson and Harry Wilson); plus Brunel Loops — an extraordinary collection of 116 subtly evolving, hypnotic, and rhythmic loops, taking inspiration from the likes of American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and film score composer Jon Brion as well as the work of Australian singer, songwriter, and composer Nick Cave and associated Australian-French musician and composer Warren Ellis (effectively performed and developed by Spitfire Audio’s amazing musicians and engineers using experimental combinations of amplified stringed instruments, guitars and pedals, synths, saxophone, tuned and untuned drums and percussion, effects, and field recordings to generate ‘get of out jail’ sounds as an array of instantly gratifying gems from the heart of London).
As an orchestral library fit for a new decade, ALBION NEO naturally celebrates the work of composers from Oslo and Reykjavik with whom Spitfire Audio has creatively collaborated and supported, so surely it would be remiss of the company to have completed its icy-northern-inspired music-making masterpiece without first featuring a harmonium — hence opting to also record a pristine example in the cinematic splendour of AIR Studio’s Lyndhurst Hall... both clean and warped, of course! Creating intimate textural beds and drones with the resulting Harmonium’s warm, breathy tones comes naturally to ALBION NEO, as does adding effects using its warped content folder. Fortunately, Spitfire Audio’s Mercury Synth engine easily allows anyone to shape their own unique pads and take the iconic instrument in question to new dimensions.
Effectively echoing the subtle, nuanced sound of ALBION V TUNDRA that captured a characteristically Scandinavian sound (sampling a 100-piece orchestra playing never-before-sampled techniques at the very edge of silence), ALBION NEO duly delivers the definition and emotive detail of a smaller orchestral ensemble — endless inspiration for writing intimate sections, scoring independent films that need more focus and precision, or adding achingly beautiful, expressive sounds and textures to intensely personal productions... and all out of the box! Better said — by Christian Henson himself, no less: “With ALBION NEO we go back to the very heart of Spitfire, and that is: small is more powerful... packs a greater emotional punch — especially if you put small in a great big hall like AIR Studios.”

FENDER MERGES ACOUSTIC INNOVATION WITH ELECTRIC GUITAR HERITAGE, EXTENDS AMERICAN ACOUSTASONIC® SERIES WITH STRATOCASTER® MODEL
All New Fullerton Series Ukuleles Bring Iconic Fender Electric Guitar Body Shapes, Colours to the Ukulele Community
HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (January 16, 2020)—Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) today
celebrates the release of the newest model in the American Acoustasonic® Series and an all-new lineup of electric-inspired ukuleles at Winter NAMM 2020 in Anaheim, Calif. The additions include the cutting- edge, American-made Acoustasonic Stratocaster and the Fullerton Series ukuleles inspired by Fender’s most iconic electric guitars. Building off of the highly successful https://shop.fender.com/en-SE/acoustic-guitars/acoustasonic/american-acoustasonic-telecaster/0972013232.html?rl=en_US released at Winter NAMM 2019, the American Acoustasonic Stratocaster features all-new tone woods and voices with even more electric
possibilities. Along with three unique electric voices on the selector switch, the Acoustasonic
Stratocaster also adds all-new acoustic options, including short scale and concert body with a slotted headstock.
“We are proud to continue expanding our most sonically innovative platform with the American
Acoustasonic Stratocaster,” said Billy Martinez, Fender VP Category Manager, Acoustic Division.
“Following in the footsteps of what Fender accomplished over 70 years ago, it was a natural and
authentic progression for us to start with the Telecaster model and then offer a Stratocaster counterpartwith its own unique voices. We can’t wait to see what musicians, both Strat enthusiasts and acoustic fans, will achieve in their creative process with this new range of voices the Acoustasonic Stratocaster unlocks.”
Designed with a fully-hollow body and Fender’s patented Stringed Instrument Resonance System (SIRS), the American Acoustasonic Stratocaster offers a new sonic experience that is naturally loud and resonant both on and off stage. This hybrid guitar features an Acoustasonic Noiseless™ magnetic pickup that delivers a unique set of Stratocaster-inspired voicings and hum-free Fender electric tone, that can be played solo or blended with an acoustic voice to create new sounds. The Fender and Fishman- designed Acoustic Engine powers the Acoustasonic Stratocaster and provides a new body style and tone wood combinations that enable musicians to curate an all-new collection of acoustic and electric voices. This contemporary guitar also features a mahogany Stratocaster neck with an ebony fingerboard and thin line body that makes it both comfortable and easy to play.
“We’ve removed all the obstacles associated with playing an acoustic guitar, giving players those same sounds with an electric neck and comfortable thin line acoustic body – all in a familiar Strat body shape,” Martinez added. “At the same time, this guitar still gives you all the tonal options you would get in a Dreadnought, concert or auditorium acoustic guitar.”
Inspired by the legacy guitar maker’s electric roots in Southern California, the Fullerton Series brings the character and feel of Fender’s iconic guitar body shapes to the ukulele category. Aimed at those musicians looking for a unique take on a ukulele that has a body shape deeply rooted in tradition, the Fullerton Series tips the hat to Fender’s Telecaster®, Stratocaster and Jazzmaster models, ensuring players will stand out at every performance. Each ukulele features a laminated spruce top, maple neck with a laminated walnut fingerboard and Fender-designed preamp system that enables players to alter the sound via a single tone knob. Designed with comfort and ease in mind, the Fullerton Series also has a convenient no-tie bridge, making string changes a breeze in comparison to traditional ukulele bridges that require special knotting.
“The Fullerton Series is a true representation of blending iconic Fender style with the functionality of a traditional ukulele to diversify the way that players can express their vibe and personality on stage,” Martinez said. Each model is available in the traditional colours that each Fender electric guitar is known for - with the exception of the Jazzmaster which will be available in a brand new colour, Tidepool. All of these ukuleles and more will be displayed at Winter NAMM 2020:
The American Acoustasonic Stratocaster - €1999
The Fullerton Series Ukuleles - €199, including:
Fullerton Telecaster (Butterscotch Blonde, Black)
Fullerton Stratocaster (Three Tone Sunburst, Black)
Fullerton Jazzmaster (Tidepool, Olympic White)
FENDER® SPOTLIGHTS RECENTLY-LAUNCHED AMERICAN ULTRA ELECTRIC GUITAR SERIES,
REVIVES MODELS FROM THE PAST AND BRINGS BACK PARALLEL UNIVERSE AT WINTE NAMM
Fender Introduces HM “Heavy Metal” Strat, Lead II and III models, Reveals All-New Parallel Universe and American Original and Player Series Guitars Now Available In New Models and Finishes
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (January 16, 2020)—Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) today debuted its extensive electric and bass offerings for traditional and modern players alike at Winter NAMM 2020. In addition to showcasing https://www.fender.com/pages/american-ultra-guitars – the brand’s most modern and advanced electric guitar series, Fender is bringing back models from its past, including the Lead, which will be added to the Player Series. The HM Strat also returns with the same unique look and specs as the original ‘88-‘92 models. Joining Fender’s limited-edition offerings are refreshes of fan-favourites including cult classic Parallel Universe Volume 2 and the highly-acclaimed American Original Series – now offering new models and finishes.
“We’re excited to present an incredible lineup of new instruments at Winter NAMM,” said Max Gutnik, VP of Fender Electric Guitars, Basses & Amplifiers. “Our leading focus for 2020 is our new flagship electric line, American Ultra. Ultra is a great example of the continued evolution of Fender’s classic instruments in a way that remains true to Fender’s original creation yet advances the instrument to serve modern players of all genres. While we look to the future with American Ultra, we are also celebrating our past with the re-release of the all-new HM Strat and Player Lead II and III guitars. The HM Strat and Lead series represent a wonderfully innovative time at Fender and a historic era in music, when musicians and their instruments were changing rapidly, and we’re thrilled to debut them here at NAMM.”
Launched in November 2020, the American Ultra Series is the most advanced guitar from Fender. The series has all-new modern features, state-of-the-art craftsmanship and nuanced design. With 44 SKUs, the American Ultra Series offers many options for players looking for modern advancements, including the Stratocaster®, Telecaster®, Precision Bass®, Jazzmaster®, Jazz Bass® and Jazz Bass® V with an assortment of all-new colours in the €2,189 - €2,049 price range. The Ultra Series is a pivotal moment in Fender history as it offers new body design and contours – marking the first time in decades since the last significant alteration was made to the iconic Fender Stratocaster of Telecaster body shapes. Embracing artist and player feedback is a core driver for Fender’s design process, leading to decades of subtle yet crucial innovations.
Fender created the Lead model in 1979, featuring a new solid-body design, hard-tail bridges and cool new wiring options. Paying homage, Fender is releasing the Player Lead Series for the unconventional, offbeat, and most importantly, undefined players. The series offers the choice of the Player Lead II (an homage to the late `70s models) and the Player Lead III (a tribute to the original 1982-only model), which both incorporate era-correct Lead Series specs with a blend of the modern Player Series specs offering style, power, and versatility in comfortable, easy-to-play models.
A true Fender fan favourite and cult classic will also be reborn at WNAMM, the limited-edition HM (Heavy Metal) Stratocaster originally designed and launched in the late-`80s with metal heads and technical players in mind. Built in the same factory as the original, the HM Strat will be available in four original era-correct Day-Glo colours: Frozen Yellow, Flash Pink, Ice Blue and Bright White.
Also debuting at WNAMM are all-new limited-edition models that make up Parallel Universe Volume 2 (€2,249 - €2,619). Offering even more unique models in the second iteration of Parallel Universe, these combinations of Fender design elements, body shapes and parts are for players looking for the most exciting and rare instruments Fender will come out with this year. The following models will be released in 2020:
The Troublemaker Custom w/ Bigsby (€2,519)
Troublemaker Tele Custom (€2,519)
Strat Jazz Deluxe (€2,519)
Maverick Dorado (€2,619)

The new models include the Duo Sonic, Mustang, Mustang Bass PJ and Mustang 90.
LOS ANGELES, CA, USA/HONG KONG, CHINA: musician-empowering musical instruments creator Ashun Sound Machines (ASM) is proud to advance its innovative Hydrasynth digital wave morphing synthesizer — launched late last year to widespread critical acclaim as its inaugural hardware product, produced as a keyboard variant (featuring a proprietary Polytouch™ 49-note polyphonic aftertouch keybed and a user-assignable ribbon controller) and desktop variant (with 24 velocity- and polyphonic aftertouch-sensitive pads, plus an included 19-inch rack-mount kit) — with welcomed new features, thanks to a major firmware update, ultimately coinciding with the first day of The 2020 NAMM Show, January 16-19, Anaheim, CA, USA, where both variants of Hydrasynth will wow visitors for the first time for sure…
Anchored around a unique digital wave morphing synthesis engine as an eight-voice polysynth whose three oscillators can all make use of any one of the 219 single-cycle waveforms available, while flexibly facilitating defining eight waveforms into a list and then morphing from one to the next using extensive movement-inducing modulation sources with Wave Scan mode (for OSC 1 and OSC 2 only), ASM’s avant-garde Hydrasynth made musical waves when unleashed upon an unsuspecting world with keyboard and desktop variants late last year. Said synthesis engine also features four mutators for further tonal modification, while two filters can be configured in parallel or series. Perfectly paired with an equally powerful effects section comprising four fully-independent modules, all creatively combine to produce sounds that have to be heard to be believed! Better still, the Hydrasynth keyboard’s proprietary Polytouch™ 49-note polyphonic aftertouch keybed instantly struck a major (and minor) chord with musicians wishing to better express themselves without having to master a new keyboard technique, while connectivity to the wider world is as far reaching as it comes, courtesy of a full-blown MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) implementation — including the usual connection compliment of MIDI IN, MIDI OUT, and MIDI THRU on five-pin DIN, as well as USB — complimented by conveniently-positioned CV/GATE connections for mini-jacks (so playing nicely with the likes of today’s ever-widening world of Eurorack modular gear, vintage synthesizers, and more, is perfectly possible).
As ASM advances both Hydrasynth variants with the timely introduction of the Version 1.3.0 firmware update at The 2020 NAMM Show, its innovative instruments now support MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression). An advancement of the MIDI specification used by many alternative controllers, this allows for true polyphonic pitch bend as well as two dimensions of control between compatible controllers and sound generators. Get this, though: those musicians wishing to better express themselves are going to have a field day with Hydrasynth as ASM advances its innovative instruments ever closer to performance perfection! With Warm mode’s musically-pleasing arrival — also a result of the Version 1.3.0 firmware update, shaping the sound to better emulate the frequency response of some vintage synthesizers by rounding out the high end of any patch while giving it a gentle boost in the low end to create characteristic ‘warmth’ overall, surely sound designers are also going to be happy bunnies! Both performers and sound designers will welcome Hydrasynth’s MPE modulation additions via Version 1.3.0 — namely, new modulation sources, such as MPE-X (normally pitch bend control), MPE-Yabs (absolute mode, referred to as controller 74 in some devices), MPE-Yrel (relative mode, also referred to as controller 74 in some devices), and MPEoffVc (note off velocity).
Timed to coincide with those welcomed advancement announcements, ASM is also offering its inaugural artist patch bank of 128 sounds — courtesy of Matia Simovich (a.k.a. INHALT) — as a downloadable creative collection focusing on classic, stable, and highly-playable, expressive synthesizer tones to complement Hydrasynth’s factory presets.
Privileged attendees of The 2020 NAMM Show surely owe it to themselves to swing by Booth 10405 there to see and hear ASM putting the advanced Hydrasynth through its impressive paces.
The Artiphon Orba is a Band in Your Hand that Just Raised $1.4M on Kickstarter
After another record-breaking crowdfund, Artiphon brings their new $99 portable synth, looper, and controller to The NAMM Show
ANAHEIM, January 15, 2020 (ictw) – With more than 13,000 pre-orders and over $1.4 million raised, Orba by Artiphon sets a new global crowdfunding record for the most musical instrument pre-orders. The public can now reserve an Orba from the first production run via https://artiphon.com/
Orba is a $99 portable synthesizer, looper, and MIDI controller that fits in the palm of your hand. Its minimalist design looks like the hybrid between a gaming controller and a bowl of miso soup, and its feather-touch sensitivity translates gestures from fingers and hand movements directly into music. Eight touchpads respond to even the slightest touch, detecting a variety of gestures like tapping, sliding, and vibrato. Additionally, motion sensors let players wave, tilt, and shake to add more sounds and effects.
Orba’s built-in looper lets players create songs in seconds using multiple sounds and playing modes (Drum, Bass, Chord, and Lead). It can be played standalone with its onboard synth and speaker, and also connects wirelessly to mobile devices and computers via USB and Bluetooth MIDI. Orba works with iOS, Mac, Windows, and Android, and is compatible with all major recording software including GarageBand, Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, and FL Studio.
Orba is the second smart multi-instrument from Artiphon. The company’s debut product, the INSTRUMENT 1, is the first MIDI controller that lets players strum, tap, bow, slide, and drum any sound on a single device. The INSTRUMENT 1 previously set the record for the highest-raising musical instrument crowdfund ($1.3 million), and was named a TIME best invention of the year.
The company also recently announced new strategic investors. In addition to funding from Warner Music Group’s Boost Fund, Artiphon recently received investment from TechNexus in partnership with Shure. Warner Music Group is one of the music industry’s top three record labels, and Shure is the most trusted name in microphones worldwide.
Artiphon will exhibit this week at the NAMM show in Anaheim, CA, where attendees can play Orba hands-on for the first time and see artists perform with the new device. (Synth Showcase, Booth #10409)
FENDER CUSTOM SHOP UNVEILS SALEEN AUTOMOTIVE-INSPIRED GUITAR, DIAMOND-LADEN
CORONATION STRATOCASTER, CELEBRATES 70 TH ANNIVERSARY OF BROADCASTER AT WINTER NAMM 2020
Fender Custom Shop Enters New Decade with Annual and Prestige Collections, Eclectic Masterbuilt Creations and Artist Models for Jimmy Page and Eric Johnson
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (January 15, 2020)—Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) today
announced the introduction of its Annual and Prestige collections, as well as additions to the Custom Artist Collection for Jimmy Page and Eric Johnson to the Fender Custom Shop lineup – all debuting at Winter NAMM in Anaheim, Calif.
“At the Fender Custom Shop, we’re known for building dreams, and this year’s lineup of guitars bring to life the unimaginable,” said Mike Lewis, VP of Product Development, Fender Custom Shop. “Guitars from the Fender Custom Shop represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship and creativity at Fender. From our annual collections and artist models – such as Jimmy Page Signature Tele and Limited-Edition Eric Johnson “Virginia” Strat– to one-off showpieces from the world’s most skilled Master Builders, wecontinue to push the envelope for creativity and innovation in the industry.”
One of those showpieces for 2020 includes a collaboration with animator Chris Schnabel. In
collaboration with Fender Custom Shop master builders, Schnabel conceptualised and painted designs for two guitars. Models include the “'50's Telecaster Special" by Master Builder Dale Wilson and “The Conman” from Master Builder Scott Buehl. The concept of the later is based on villain “Captain Carp” from an upcoming book from Schnabel.
Each year, an Annual Collection of models are conceived and created in the Fender Custom Shop toshowcase the latest innovations and developments—everything from pickup design, wiring and finish processes, to wood combinations and more. Joining the Annual Collections “Limited Edition” series this year are four models celebrating the 70 th anniversary of the Broadcaster and the origins of one of Fender’s most iconic models. In 1950, Fender introduced the Broadcaster, an extremely limited and collectible model that was Fender’s second solid body electric guitar with a truss rod and two pickups.
Eventually, the Broadcaster became what players know today as the Telecaster. Teambuilt and
masterbuilt in Corona, Calif., 70 th Anniversary Broadcaster models are limited to 2020 and will feature a variety of aging options.
In addition to the annual collections, the following make their way into the Fender Custom Shop Artist series lineup. Beginning in 2020, these models will be available at Authorised Custom Shop Dealers. See below for full descriptions; they include: Jimmy Page Signature Telecaster® - the ever-popular Jimmy Page signature model (mirrored version) will become a permanent, custom teambuilt model in the Custom Artist Collection.
Eric Johnson Virginia Stratocaster® - “Virginia” is a rare, modified, sassafras-bodied 1954
Stratocaster (named after a label found inside the pickup routes) that was played on Johnson’s
hit song “Cliffs of Dover”. He also wielded it during the recording of the groundbreaking Tones
and Ah Via Musicom albums that made him a star beyond guitarist circles. Limited to 50
instruments worldwide and Masterbuilt by Carlos Lopez, the Eric Johnson Virginia Stratocaster is
a faithful replica of this magnificent instrument, with a production line model also offered.
Each year, the Fender Custom Shop’s esteemed Master Builders are given a challenge to build a guitar with no boundaries. The result of that creative exercise is the 2020 Prestige Collection models – with one conjured up by each Master Builder; they include:
Ron Thorn: Fender® Stratocaster® 1 Guitar - $33,000
Acclaimed for building high-performance guitars even before his arrival at Fender, Master
Builder Ron Thorn has always loved fast cars. Struck by the similarities in sleek design and high-
performance between the Fender Stratocaster guitar and the Saleen® 1 super sports car, Thorn
conceived of a one-of-a-kind Stratocaster combining elements of both. The result is the
Stratocaster 1. This supercharged guitar is finished in striking Saleen Candy Apple Red. Its hand-
laid carbon-fiber body is hollow for super-lightweight, with a roasted alder centre block and a
hand-carved maple top. Its quartersawn roasted maple neck has a 12” radius carbon fibre
round-lam fingerboard with medium jumbo frets, topped off with a matching carbon fibre
headstock overlay. In a special Saleen design touch, the high-output TV Jones™ Power’Tron Plus
bridge pickup sits beneath a tinted “rear window,” and the new custom “6-Stack” bridge and
handmade Strat 1 tailpiece are brand-new Fender innovations that give the guitar an even more
sleek custom look and tone. Further, a custom Strat® 1 pedalboard enhances the player’s
“driving” experience with custom volume, tone and wah-wah controls. To complete the set, the
Fender Stratocaster 1 also comes with a matching pedal board and will be displayed with a
Saleen car at Winter NAMM 2020. *Saleen, Ford, Jaguar, Shelby and TV Jones are trademarks of
their respective owners.
Yuriy Shishkov: Coronation Stratocaster® - $560,000
Yuriy Shishkov’s Coronation Stratocaster is inspired by the Coronation Egg made in 1897 to
commemorate the inauguration of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra on an Imperial throne.
Given its historical significance, Shishkov says this is the most famous and most valuable egg
created and was even a part of a heist plot in the popular movie Oceans 12. The guitar design
includes a gold leafed surface with an “on-wood” Guilloche and gilded silver artwork. It also
features custom fabricated diamond eagle medallions, along with hundreds of diamonds
throughout the instrument. The neck has distinct “trellises” with diamond patterns found on the
egg’s “hidden surprise” coach. The Coronation Stratocaster comes with an authentic LTD Edition
vintage recreation of the Coronation Egg. After 16 months of work, this has become Shishkov’s
“most complicated and intriguing project” to-date, he says.
John Cruz: Custom Griffin Themed Leather carved and covered 612 Doubleneck Tele® -
John Cruz’s Custom Griffin Themed Leather carved and covered 612 Doubleneck Tele is a
custom-themed guitar that has never been created before. In addition to a 612 Doubleneck
feature, the guitar also features painted artwork with a 3D effect. “I wanted to create somethingthat looked beautiful, but also be totally playable and sound amazing,” he says. “This guitar is for anyone who dares to be different.”
Greg Fessler: Boutique Telecaster - $8,500
Greg Fessler’s Boutique Telecaster celebrates the 70 th anniversary of the esteemed model. As he mapped out the concept for the guitar, he was focused on showcasing beautiful figured wood
but used in a “boutique” version of a Telecaster.
Dennis Galuszka: The Argyle Telecaster® - $9,850
Dennis Galuszka’s The Argyle Telecaster was conceived in collaboration with virtuoso Fender
painter Jay Nelson. Designed to bring out anyone’s internal hipster, this Telecaster features a
sparkle paint job along with an argyle pattern. “We have an amazing in-house painter in Jay and
I am a total sucker for sparkle paint jobs and patterns within a sparkle,” he says.
Todd Krause: Swagger - $9,300
Todd Krause’s Swagger guitar is based on the Fender “Swinger,” but takes on a different name
due to the various changes he applied to the model. Krause used roasted figured maple for the
neck and gave the headstock the same curves as the body. The guitar also features a full 25.5”
scale length, a custom bridge, custom top mount and high output silver foil pickups from Curtis
Novak. “This is a great guitar for a Swinger collector or collectors looking for something a little
different,” Krause says.
Carlos Lopez: Sugar Skull Strat® - $36,500
Carlos Lopez’ Sugar Skull Strat is entirely painted by esteemed artist Pamelina. As Lopez created
the guitar, the building part was secondary to the painting, which transforms this instrument
into a work of art. “When I was an apprentice, I told myself I was going to work with Pamelina
when I became a Master Builder. I hope this guitar will remind everyone that we are more than
just guitar builders.”
Kyle McMillin: Vineyard Tele - $9,300
Kyle McMillin’s The Beaulieu Vineyard Tele is made from reclaimed wood from the wine barrels
of the vineyard of its namesake. Through the decades, the barrel wood developed a natural red
stain from the wine that was made within it. To showcase the old wood and its character,
McMillin finished the guitar off with a super thin permalac finish. Unique and elegantly simple,
the Telecaster also features cork knobs and tarnished raw hardware, as well as a Twisted Tele
neck pickup and a Broadcaster bridge pickup.
Jason Smith: India Garden Esquire® - $16,000
Jason Smith’s India Garden Esquire is a collaboration with Pyrography artist Madeline Hanlon,
whose beautiful, detailed wood burning design is displayed on the guitar. As Smith design his
Prestige creation, he pulled inspiration from the 70 th Anniversary of the Esquire guitar, as well as
floral prints found on tapestries and clothing of India for the artwork. There’s a simplicity to the
overall design - from the lack of fretboard markers on the highly figured birdseye neck, to the
single pickup and simplistic volume and tone control layout.
Paul Waller: Carved Top Telecaster - $9,500
Paul Waller’s Carved Top Telecaster is a semi-hollow, double “F” hole Telecaster made from
swamp ash and a book matched quilted maple top. The custom-made Curtis Novak P-90 style
pickups are covered in tortoise, which is accentuated by the tortoise double bound body. The
roasted AA flame neck wears a flat lam Indian rosewood board and holds 22 - 6105 frets. It’s
easily navigated with a mid-sized oval “C” shaped neck. The guitar’s colour is a hand mixed teal
transparent with a slight burst covered in NOS lacquer. Gold hardware completes the package of
this custom one-off.
Dale Wilson: Tamo Ash Esquire - $8,550
Dale Wilson’s Tamo Ash Esquire was inspired by a piece of Tamo Ash wood he saved years ago
for a special project. “The figuring on this piece of Tamo Ash was incredible, and I’m a sucker for
a Honey Burst paint job,” he says. Wilson was determined to showcase the beauty and simplicity
of the Fender Esquire with this showpiece.
Finally, Fender will also debut five Fender Custom Shop amplifiers, which include:
Custom Shop ‘57 Deluxe TM , Hangar One, 120V - $9,000
A one-of-a-kind amplifier with a cabinet crafted from old-growth redwood that was reclaimed from Hangar One on Moffett Field in Mountain View, California. The rear panel includes laser-cut artwork commemorating a vision of the colossal 1930s blimp hangar and an airborne Navy dirigible in flight. The hand-wired and tweaked 5E3 deluxe chassis complements the highly seasoned, lightly sealed wood enclosure with a Celestion Blue driver for superb tone and appearance. Only one unit available; for 120 Volt regions only.
Custom Shop ‘57 Deluxe TM , Rustic Big Boy 15, 120V - $6,000
The ‘57 Deluxe “Big Boy” 15 amplifier takes the time-honored Tweed Deluxe formula and bumps up the tone with a 15-inch guitar speaker - the mighty Fender®/Eminence® Special Design 15. To tighten up the extra-fat bass response, we’ve tweaked the Fender “yellow” tone capacitor values for more refined attack and twang. The resonant, lightweight premium pine cabinet is stained black, hand-sanded for an eye-grabbing “rustic grain” appearance and lightly clear-coated. Only 25 units will be built for the world.
Custom Shop ‘57 Custom Twin – 120V- $10,000
This Fender Custom Shop amplifier built by Master Builder Jim Dolmage is constructed with pine and custom painted metal flake finish by Cam Fury of Fury in Kolor. Sold as a set with matching guitar built by Master Builder Ron Thorn. Features include a cabinet built with kiln dried sugar pine, hand selected from quarter sawn lumber free of knots and defects; all-tube classic 5E8A circuitry, based on the hand wired 57 Custom Twin with 40 Watts of power; Fender Pure Vintage yellow capacitors; Mercury
Magnetics transformers; and two 12AY7 preamp tubes; Twin 12” Eminence Special Design alnico
Fender Masterbuilt Dynamite Box Amplifier – 120V- $9,000
The Fender Amp Custom Shop advises you to stand back, because its newest musical munition—the Masterbuilt Dynamite Box Amplifier—packs quite a punch into a small but powerful amp armament. Its rare reclaimed 1920s-era wooden cabinet once transported real explosives made by the Trojan Powder Company of Allentown, Pa., and Roberts Landing, Calif., for use by the military and in the mining and dam-building industries. Designed and crafted by Amp Custom Shop Master Builder Shawn Greene, the well-worn century-old cabinet houses single 6” and 8” Jensen® alnico speakers for unique full-frequency tonality, powered by hand-wired ’57 Champ circuitry (5 watts at 4 ohms) with hand-selected components. With distressed grille, a pine control panel fashioned from the cabinet’s own chassis cut- out, hand-aged hardware and silkscreened Trojan logo and other labeling, it’s a one-of-a-kind item of stylish sonic ammo ideal for living room and studio alike.
Masterbuilt Princeton Stars N Stripes – 120V - $10,000
This Fender Custom Shop amplifier was conceived and developed by Master Builder Jim Dolmage. It is constructed with beautiful hand selected tone woods from our “private stash.” This is a one of a kind amplifier built to celebrate the release of our hand wired ‘64 Custom Princeton Reverb amp. Other features include a cabinet built with smoked and roasted ash in alternating vertical stripes, with reclaimed walnut and maple star inlays on the sides; chamfered “diamond cut” flame maple trim; all tube hand-wired circuitry based on the ‘64 Custom Princeton Reverb amp; Celestion G12H30 speaker squeezed in for a rich, full bodied sound; Tube-driven tremolo and long-spring reverb; and the wood was hand-sanded and treated with 8 coats of oil for a luminous natural finish. 2020 Annual Collections Include:

2020 artist models include:
Eric Johnson Virginia Stratocaster® Guitar – €9309.00
In 1988 renowned tone savant Eric Johnson made his debut on Austin City Limits, delivering an
electrifying performance that ultimately catapulted “Cliffs of Dover” to #5 on the Billboard Top 100. “Virginia,” a rare, modified, sassafras-bodied 1954 Stratocaster (named after a label found inside the pickup routes) powered this career-defining moment. He also wielded it during the recording of the groundbreaking Tones and Ah Via Musicom albums that made him a star beyond guitarist circles. Limited to 50 instruments worldwide and Masterbuilt by Carlos Lopez, the Eric Johnson Virginia Stratocaster is a 1:1 replica of this magnificent instrument, one that could only be born in the Dream Factory. Every intricacy of Johnson’s original was reproduced in painstaking detail by Lopez. From thesingle Graph Tech® String Saver saddle on the high E to the flat washer on the output jack and specially cut nut, he left no stone unturned in his quest—even going so far as to match the actual pot values and removing one spring from the rear cavity. Featuring a Deluxe Closet Classic finish package, this guitar wears a lightly checked lacquer finish, matched to Closet Classic hardware, giving it a well-loved, slightly aged look. The offset-seam, two-piece body is crafted from tight-grained sassafrass, which adds a “round” note to the instrument’s voice. The AAAA flame maple neck features a “V”-shaped profile that comfortably fills the hand and hosts a 12” radius maple fingerboard with 21 jumbo frets. Custom, hand-
wound “Virginia” neck and middle pickups, matched to a fat-sounding DiMarzio HS2 humbucking bridge pickup powers this guitar’s voice. This trio of pickups are connected by custom wiring and a 5-way pickup switch which places the pickup pair in-phase in switch position two and out-of-phase in position four, unlocking his singing, violin-like tone for you to enjoy. Other features include single-ply Eggshell pickguard, vintage-style EJ synchronized tremolo assembly, vintage-style tuning machines, American Vintage string tree with nylon spacer and as a special touch, a piece of masking tape inside the control route labelled ‘Virginia’. Includes custom pure nickel string set for vintage-informed tone, deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
Jimmy Page Signature Telecaster® – €4999.00
The Fender Custom Shop Custom Artist collection Jimmy Page Signature Telecaster® is a faithful recreation of the guitar Jimmy Page played in the early days of Led Zeppelin and used on the band’s groundbreaking debut album. The Telecaster guitar was a gift from Jeff Beck, Page’s predecessor, in seminal U.K. psychedelic blues-rock outfit the Yardbirds. Page promptly “consecrated” the guitar—a 1959 model with a white blonde finish and rosewood fingerboard—by applying eight round mirrors to it in order to, in his own words “make it sort of almost kinetic” and “a channeling vehicle for music.” Page used the Telecaster for all the electric guitar work on eponymous 1969 album Led Zeppelin, one of the most acclaimed and influential debut albums in rock history. True to the original, the Jimmy Page Signature Telecaster has a two-piece ash body with off-center seam, with an eight-hole pickguard and Journeyman Relic lacquer finish. The tinted maple neck has a custom Jimmy Page 1959 profile, topped by a flat-lam rosewood fingerboard with a 7.25” radius and vintage-upgrade frets. The two hand-wound 1958 Telecaster pickups have three-way switching withmodern wiring. Other features include a top-load/string-through-body Telecaster bridge with threaded steel saddles, vintage-style tuning machines, and bone nut. Includes deluxe hardshell case, custom strap, custom mirror kit, coil cable and Certificate of Authenticity.

SANTA MONICA, CA, USA: trailblazing pro audio manufacturer Antelope Audio is proud to introduce Zen Tour Synergy Core — readily representing its innovative take on pushing portable audio interface design further forward as a cross- platform (TB3/USB2 for Mac/Win) 18x24 offering that can process up to 256 effects over 32 channels with ultra-low latency and zero CPU drain (thanks to the four ARM-based DSP processors, to which it owes its extended family name, working with the doubled custom-designed FPGA chip architecture of its popular predecessor) for artefact-free recording and mixing with confidence (courtesy of Antelope Audio’s always-competitive specs, including 130dB DA conversion on its monitor outs for an unrivalled critical listening experience) — at The 2020 NAMM Show, January 16-19, Anaheim, CA, USA…
Owners of Zen Tour Synergy Core can choose from a wider variety of DSP-based effects that are available exclusively from Antelope Audio, such as a custom- designed plug-in that leverages the next-generation hardware acceleration of the Synergy Core platform to deliver the legendary Auto-Tune® pitch correction and vocal effects with ultra-low latency (Auto-Tune Synergy); a fresh and versatile take on vintage tremolos (Vari-Speed Tremolo); phases, sweeps, and swooshes that sound truly out of this world (Space Flanger); and much more besides. Better still, users can creatively process up to 32 mono DAW channels via Zen Tour Synergy Core as hardware inserts or place 32 Synergy Core-powered effects racks as plug-ins via Antelope Audio’s AFX2DAW bridge, bringing DSP- and FPGA-based effects modelling to any DAW!
Duly shipping with a free starter pack of 36 emulations of classic studio gear and creative effects (worth $2,120.00 USD if bought individually), Zen Tour Synergy Core comes complete with two mic preamps (Gyraf Gyratec IX); four EQs (VEQ-1, VMEQ-5, VEQ-HLF, and Clear Q); five compressors and limiters (FET-A76, Stay- Levin, VCA160, X903, and PowerFFC); 11 tube guitar amps (Plexi 59 (UK), Bass SuperTube VR, Darkface 65 (US), Top30 (UK) Bright, Tweed Deluxe (US), Overange 120 (UK), BurnSphere (DE) Lead, Marcus II (US) Lead, Modern (US) CH3, Rock 75 (UK), and Rock 22.10 (UK)); 11 guitar cabinets (Darkface 65 2x12, Top30 2x12, Modern 4x12, Green 2x12, Vintage 4x12, Green 4x12, Caliper 50 1x10, Bluelux 1x12, Clst 1x12, England 4x12, and Bass Tube 1x15); two special processing effects (PowerEX and PowerGate); and one reverb (Auraverb). Additional expansions from Antelope Audio’s ever-expanding library of DSP/FPGA effects of course can be bought by Zen Tour Synergy Core owners at any time to further future-proof their studio workflow with the greatest of ease.
As a portable desktop device that can comfortably fit into a backpack, Zen Tour Synergy Core’s comprehensive I/O is impressive. In terms of its 8x14 analog I/O implementation, it can record four acoustic sources using microphones (via four mic/line inputs on TRS/XLR Combo jacks) and four electric guitars or eight mono/ four stereo synthesizers simultaneously (by also utilising four instrument/line inputs on TRS). Ultimately, users can process up to eight mono channels through outboard gear (via a standard 25-pin D-SUB connector) and record them back into DAW projects.
Connectivity continues with two monitor outs on TRS, two headphone outs on TRS, and two re-amp outs on TRS. The 10x10 implementation of digital I/O via ADAT and SPDIF allows for extending that already-impressive analogue I/O implementation with external line/mic convertors for plugging into external digital processing units without AD/DA conversion. Correspondingly, ADAT (SMUX) supported channel count varies — between eight inputs and outputs at 44.1/48 kHz, four inputs and outputs at 88.2/96 kHz, and two inputs and outputs at 176.4/192 kHz — while the SPDIF-supported channel count totals two inputs and two outputs at 44.1-192 kHz.
Antelope Audio’s signature selection and implementation of ADC/DAC components provides for transparent, artefact-free audio capture when recording and detailed playback with wide soundstage and low noise for critical listening when mixing while operating at 24dBu reference levels using Zen Tour Synergy Core. Competitive specs speak volumes with those line inputs achieving 124dB (-110THD+N) AD, line outputs achieving 127dB (-107THD+N) DA, and monitor outs achieving 130dB (-115THD+N) DA.
Zen Tour Synergy Core adopts the latest generation of Antelope Audio’s acclaimed 4th Gen 64-bit Acoustically Focused Clocking technology to eliminate jitter and provide artefact-free AD/DA, and it can clock external devices connected via ADAT or SPDIF.
As a Thunderbolt 3- and USB 2-equipped cross-platform audio interface that is compatible with both macOS — Catalina included — and Windows, Zen Tour Synergy Core really represents a sound investment for any audio engineer, even if subsequently choosing to change their computer system. Since it utilises high-performance, custom-built drivers, Zen Tour Synergy Core can achieve ultra-low round trip latency for direct monitoring with effects.
So, simply speaking, Zen Tour Synergy Core comes up trumps when it comes to duly delivering enhanced effects processing capabilities and improved AD/DA as a perfect portable fit for project studio owners as well as on-the-move producers and audio engineers who use audio effects to process recording and mixing sessions while seeking extensive analogue connectivity in a compact form factor.
For those seeking to musically meditate on pushing portable audio interface innovation, why not experience all that Zen Tour Synergy Core has to offer when it is introduced by Antelope Audio on Booth 15912 at The 2020 NAMM Show, January 16-19, Anaheim, CA, USA? Ultimately, visitors welcomed will surely be impressed with what they see and hear there!
Zen Tour Synergy Core will be shipping in Q1 2020 — at a projected price of $1995.00 USD/€1995.00 EUR — and available through Antelope Audio’s growing global network of authorised dealers (https://en.antelopeaudio.com/dealers/). V3 Offers Nine New Modes, Voltage or Expression Control Over the "Drag" Parameter, "Tails"/No Tails Switching and New Price Point
Midwest Earth, January 16, 2020 -- For centuries (or maybe just years), EarthQuaker Devices' Afterneath creation has been the innovative go-to reverberation contraption for artists looking to create a lush and novel enchanting sounds befitting an axe-wielding wizard of the highest order. Unwilling to rest on their laurels, the alchemists toiling away in EarthQuaker Devices' Akron, Ohio stronghold, have conjured, and are set to unleash, the Afterneath V3 and their creation becomes available for purchase at the brand new price point of $199 on April 15, 2020.
About New Afterneath V3 Features:
Afterneath V3 continues to offer the celebrated "Drag" feature and now it can be put under voltage or expression control using the "EXP" jack located on the side of the device. It operates in nine different modes, which are selected by a small "Mode" control located directly underneath the "Drag" control. These modes are as follows: Unquantized with slew, Unquantized volt/octave, Chromatic scale, Major scale, Minor scale, Penatonic scale, Octaves and Fifths, and Octaves. These modes drastically transform the operation of the "Drag" control functions.
1. Unquantized: Smooth, unquantized response over the operating range
2. Unquantized with Slew: Smooth, unquantized response over the entire operating range, but with a musical slew that is reminiscent of turning the varispeed knob on a vintage British tape delay. The “Drag” will lag behind the knob or voltage changes, but then quickly catch up
3. Unquantized Volt/Octave: Smooth and unquantized, yet scaled to align with the 1v/octave curve to allow melodic modulation of audio in the buffer, or control the frequency of self-oscillation like a voltage controlled oscillator.
4. Chromatic Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the chromatic scale
5. Major Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the major scale
6. Minor Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the minor scale
7. Pentatonic Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the pentatonic scale
8. Octaves & Fifths: Quantized 1v/octave to omit all but octaves and fifths
9. Octaves: Quantized 1v/octave to omit all but octaves
The device features a completely analog dry signal path, totally digital delay path, buffered bypass with Flexi Switch Technology, and a "Tails"/"No Tails" option on bypass.
Additionally, Afterneath V3 offers the following features:
Enhanced otherworldly reverb algorithm built from an adjustable cluster of short delays
Ranges from scattered individual delays to an immersive wash of atmospheric reverb
Silent relay-based switching
Current Draw: 100 mA
Input Impedance: 1M Ohm
Output Impedance: 500 Ohm
Boxed dimensions: 5.5” x 4.25” x 3.25”
Out-of-box dimensions: 4.75” x 2.50” x 2.25”
Weight: 14 oz
