Kommunikation med M-Audios support:

I have a Profire 610 sound card, works fine with my Lenovo laptop computer, but only with Cubase. I can't find how to get all "regular" sound out thru my monitors. As it is now the output from Winamp, Media player, Audacity are sent to the internal sound card (i.e. to the laptops internal speakers.)
If I update the sound card setting to Profire in the Win XP control panel, I get no sound at all from those applications.
Quite confusing.
BTW, since I bring the computer everywhere, it would be great if the computer switched to the internal sound card when Profire 610 isn't available.

What outputs on the 610 are your speakers connected to? Can you check to see if you are getting signal from the software returns in the ProFire control panel mixer when running system sounds?
---
The speakers are connected to output 1 and 2.
The Profire control panel mixer doesn't detect any input signal at all when running Winamp or Media Player. How am I supposed to direct the Windows output sound to a specific couple of Profire channels?
---
Go to the Windows control panel and then to Sounds and Audio Devices. Set the ProFire as the default audio playback device.

Just tried this one more time and I found something very odd:
When I open "Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Volume tab" there are 3 different volume controls - Volume, Synthesizer and CD-player. The Wave one is set to volume 0 (min) (The other two at max.)
If I adjust the Wave volume control (using the mouse) I can hear sound out thru my monitors for a short period (less than a second), then the volume control automatically re-sets itself to 0 again. If I try to force the volume control to a higher level by keeping the mouse button down the window starts to flash and the sound out is interupted all the time. When I release the mouse button, the volume control immediately goes back to 0.

Try disabling the computer’s onboard sound card.
---
No improvement, no sound at all now. (Neither internal speakers or external monitors.)
BTW, when I open the control panel's sound and audio devices window, the
leftmost tab (volume) has the volume section greyd out.
---
OK, try re-enabling the onboard soundcard. Can you list all of the devices found under Sound Video and Game Controllers in the Windows Device Manager? What other audio and multimedia applications are running?
---
Built in soundcard is now re-enabled.
The only two sound devices are SoundMAX HD Audio and Profire 610 Multi.
No game controller at all.
Only audio and multimedia application running is Windows Media Player. (I have also tried Winamp and Audacity.)
---
Try this:
1) Go to the Windows Control panel and select Sounds and Audio Devices.
2) Go to Hardware, Select the ProFire, and then click Properties.
3) Click on the Properties tab and expand Audio Devices
4) Select ProFire and click Properties.
5) Check the box the says "Do Not Map Through This Device".
6) Click Apply and OK.
Try setting the Sample Rate in the ProFire control panel to 44.1kHz

Doesn't work. I followed the instructions, but when I start MediaPlayer now I get an error message saying can't play file because of a sound unit problem. No sound unit installed, or used by another application (which it isn't), or the sound unit doesn't work properly.
