"You can make it harder to download your files, but nothing is perfect.
If all you want to do is make it a little bit harder to download your music, then what you can do is:
1. Create a blank text file with a single line of text - the URL to your audio file.
2. Save the file as .asx (WindowsMedia), .ram (Real), .qtl (QuickTime), or .m3u (generic), depending on the type of player you'd like to target. This is a playlist file.
3. Upload that file to your own host.
4. Create a Webjay track using the URL to your uploaded playlist file.
When a user attempts to download the file, all they'll get is the playlist file. It takes a little bit of extra effort to actually download the file, so most people won't bother. But it's pretty easy to get around."
Alternatives:
- Upload your file to a CDN so you can use a rtsp:// or mms:// streaming protocol, which is a little bit harder to download. I've never seen this track made available to regular end-users, only to large businesses.
- Use some sort of DRM encoding scheme.
