New additions to the 2020 edition include:

Ableton Live Lite comes with all of Live’s essential workflows, instruments, and effects. Use it standalone or super-charge your productions using Live as a companion for PreSonus Studio One (also included with PreSonus audio interfaces and mixers).

Native Instruments Replika delay plug-in (VST, VST3, AU, AAX Native, AAX DSP) packs two professional quality delays and a powerful diffusion algorithm into a sleek, streamlined interface.

KV331 Audio Synthmaster Player (VST, AU, AAX) is a simplified version of the developer’s SynthMaster semi-modular software synthesizer and effects plug-in, with limited editing capabilities. It comes with 1,800 factory presets from a world-class team of sound designers and offers 12 editable parameters.

UVI Model D (VST, AU, AAX) lets you experience the presence and power of a Concert Grand Model D piano, captured in the brilliant Guillaume Tell soundstage in Paris.

SPL Attacker Plus (VST, VST3, AU, AAX Native, AAX DSP), from Plugin Alliance, is a micro-plug-in that enables all attack events to be amplified, regardless of their signal level. By focusing on the initial transient instead of specific frequencies, SPL Attacker Plus amplifies just the attack curves of a sound event, allowing instruments to be mixed at lower levels.

Studio Magic Plug-in Suite 2020 also includes custom piano lessons from Melodics, available exclusively to PreSonus customers.

Outstanding software retained from the 2019 edition:

UJAM Virtual Drummer 2 "Phat" (VST, VST3, AAX, AU, Standalone) is all about funky urban drums suitable for everything from retro soul to g-funk. You get 30 different drum styles and 720 patterns recorded across 5 drum kits.

Neutron Elements (VST, VST3, AAX, AU, Standalone) features futuristic, assistive technology and four fantastic-sounding audio processors: Compressor, EQ, Exciter, and Transient Shaper. Like having a virtual assistant, Neutron Elements will listen to your audio, identify instruments, and offer custom starting points for your mix decisions while leaving the creative control to you.

StudioLinked Trophies (VST, VST3, AAX, AU, Standalone) is an intuitive and easy-to-use collection of R&B sounds assembled by nine-time Grammy-winning producer Bryan-Michael Cox. It includes 500 multi-sampled presets across 13 categories, onboard effects, ADSR controls, filtering controls, and a robust library of chord progressions that you can drag-and-drop into your instrument track.

Mäag Audio EQ2 (VST, VST3, AU, AAX Native, AAX DSP) delivers the sound of the Mäag Audio EQ2 two-band hardware equalizer. Mäag Audio’s EQ design allows for exceptionally low phase shift across all EQ adjustments, which helps maintain the integrity of your mix’s original sound while enhancing the very high “air” frequencies.

Lexicon’s MPX-i Reverb (VST, AU, AAX) delivers seven classic Lexicon plate, hall, chamber, and room reverbs. A streamlined interface and 100 versatile, finely crafted presets enable you to quickly get the sound you want.

Klanghelm SDRR2tube (VST, AU, AAX) can be a saturation processor, a compressor, an EQ, a bit-crusher, or a subtle stereo widener to add warmth, depth, and character to your tracks.

Output Movement (VST, VST3, AU, AAX) is an exciting effects plug-in for the studio or stage that adds powerful rhythms to any input in real-time. Movement’s four rhythm engines blend seamlessly, while analog modeled effects optimized for modulation let you add rhythm with reverb and compressors pumping, filters and EQs opening and closing, delays morphing, and tube distortion warming and cooling.

Brainworx bx_opto compressor (VST, VST3, AU, AAX Native, AAX DSP) combines the best aspects and anomalies from several legendary, light-dependent compressor circuits. The result is a powerful dynamics processor, teeming with character and delivering sounds that can’t be achieved with analog optical compressors.

Arturia’s Analog Lab Lite 3 (VST, VST3, AAX, AU, Standalone) is a “Greatest Hits” collection of physically modeled classic analog synths, organs, string machines, and pianos from Arturia’s V-Collection of virtual instruments.

Linköping, Sweden, April 1st, 2020. A powerful and musical modern plug-in channel strip with the unique vintage sound of Chandler Limited®, the Zener-Bender combines the crisp and colorful character of the Curve Bender Mastering Equalizer with the big, punchy Zener Limiter to bring class, history, and most crucially of all, a phenomenal sonic impact. Component-modeled with Softube’s customary care and experience, these units together can take charge of any mix.
Tracing the heritage of the Chandler Limited® Zener-Bender is like discovering an imperial family tree. The roots of the Chandler sound are in EMI consoles, used at Abbey Road from the 60s onwards to record some of the most seminal albums of all time, by the likes of Pink Floyd and The Beatles. And right up to the present day the Curve Bender and Zener Limiter are being used in both hardware and plug-in form by top producers and engineers across records by world-leading artists such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, The White Stripes, Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift, and more. The influence of the Chandler Limited® sound cannot be overstated. It shapes the world it rules.

Adding the focused channel strip workflow, as well as modern plug-in features such as External Sidechain, Mid/Side Processing, and Channel Linking, the Zener-Bender is a step into the future for your mixes. Bring the mojo and musicality of the Curve Bender, and the sophisticated authority of the Zener Limiter, to your DAW of choice and hear the improvements.
The individual plug-ins are included with the Zener-Bender, so sessions featuring the Curve Bender or Zener Limiter alone will remain as royally awesome as ever.
Zener Limiter and Zener-Bender For Console 1
In addition to the Zener-Bender, Softube and Chandler are releasing two new products: the Zener Limiter is now available as a standalone plug-in in native format, and Console 1 owners will be able to take advantage of the Zener-Bender’s sound with an exclusive Console 1 version of the strip.
      In short

      Coffee - The PUn

Zero-G Fractale Fragmente is an exquisite, experimental multi-format sound library from the Hamburg-based electronic project neueheimat.
neueheimat is the brain-child of Dennis Grell and Philipp Staudinger – two producers and sound designers, whose idea was to create an unconventional library of sound tools for film and video soundtrack creators experimental music artists and alternative EDM producers.
The library‘s sound sources are as diverse as they are unusual. Only a small selection of synthesisers was used. Most sound sources came from field recordings, underwater shooting, contact microphones, broken machines, industrial equipment, children's toys, live concerts and other noise sources all recorded through a vintage analogue signal path to create a unique and incomparable listening experience.
Fraktale Fragmente comes with an elegant and easy to use Kontakt interface that will help you create entirely new sounds from the existing samples. Not only are there 6 individual filters, ADSR and LFO, there is also easy access to a whole array of effects, including delay, reverb and modulation that will help you sculpt and shape your sounds to perfection.
As well as having a custom Kontakt 6 interface this multiformat library also includes Kontakt3, EXS24, Reason and HALion instruments as well as Acidized Wav files and AIFF Apple Loops.
Fraktale Fragmente is available now with an introductory 25% off until 17th April!

SANTA CRUZ, CA, USA: Plugin Alliance, supporting all major plugin formats and uniting some of the best- known international audio companies under one virtual roof, is proud to announce founding partner Brainworx Audio’s acquisition of the assets of Wolfgang Palm’s prestigious PPG synthesizer brand. The trailblazing Hamburg-based company founded by Wolfgang Palm first found fame and fortune in its initial incarnation throughout the Eighties and beyond by bringing the distinctive sound of wavetable synthesis to the musical masses and also impacting the MI industry with its innovative PPG Wave hybrid digital/ analogue synthesizer series and associated advances. These included the unique (unreleased) Realizer — quite possibly the world’s first virtual instrument (in 1986), albeit as a proprietary hardware hybrid! Software seriously came calling from 2012 onwards when Wolfgang Palm returned to prominence, producing new PPG products.
What a legacy. PPG synthesizers have musically made their mark onstage and in the studio with an array of notable artists such as a-Ha, Alphaville, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Thomas Dolby, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Jean-Michel Jarre, Mike & The Mechanics, Gary Numan, Pet Shop Boys, Rush, Talk Talk, Tangerine Dream, Tears For Fears, Ultravox, Stevie Wonder, and many more. Thanks to Brainworx Audio’s acquisition of the assets of Wolfgang Palm’s prestigious PPG synthesizer brand, that legacy is all set to thrive.

Plans are already afoot by Brainworx Audio to update Wolfgang Palm’s PPG products in close collaboration with the man himself, universally recognized as the originator of wavetable synthesis! Together they will take the PPG brand and advance its digital products into the future, following Wolfgang Palm’s planned retirement at the end of March 2020 — after 50 years in the creative field of sound synthesis! Signing an agreement with Plugin Alliance and Brainworx Audio owner Dirk Ulrich ultimately lets Wolfgang Palm put his (well- deserved) retirement plan into action, happy in the knowledge that his ‘baby’ will be in good hands.
Wolfgang Palm puts it this way: “I am very glad to have found Brainworx and Plugin Alliance, who appreciate my work from the past and want to continue my legacy. They have a great team of competent developers, product specialists, marketing, and all that is needed to make a company successful. I support their work to make the transition as smooth as possible, and it will be exciting to see how this evolves. Also, I think that this collaboration will result in a much wider audience than before.”
Indeed, it is a great honor for Brainworx Audio to be joining forces with Wolfgang Palm — truly a legend in his own right, and continue to break boundaries in the world of virtual instruments. “We are proud that Wolfgang Palm put his brand and product into our hands,” declares Dirk Ulrich, ending on a high note: “We will make sure to carry on his legacy with the respect it deserves and we are looking forward to evolving the brand and products for years to come.”

For more in-depth information about the trailblazing work of Wolfgang Palm and the prestigious PPG’s past, present, and future, feel free to check out Plugin Alliance’s interview with the man himself here: https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/blog/blogpost/items/wolfgang-palm-interview.html

LONDON, UK: Spitfire Audio is proud to announce availability of ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS — seeing the sound-specialising British music technology company readily reuniting with BAFTA-winning Icelandic composer and producer Ólafur Arnalds to closely collaborate on its latest fully NKS (NATIVE KONTROL STANDARD®) supporting plug-in instrument for Native Instruments’ industry-standard KONTAKT PLAYER sample playback engine as an instantly playable, easy-to-use versatile, multidimensional tool that bends space and time through an intricate network of polyrhythmic piano performances, presented in a bespoke interface made up of eight multi-layered piano and synthesiser matrixes offering unique sonic experiences and detailed customisation options to create awe-inspiring patterns and atmospheric clouds of harmonic refractions that swell and die away, offering a spectrum of emotion — as of March 19...

With a lengthening line of bestselling sample-based virtual instrument library namesakes, including 2015’s ÓLAFUR ARNALDS EVOLUTIONS — embracing unique string quartet textures and long evolving phrases; 2016’s intimate-sounding ÓLAFUR ARNALDS COMPOSER TOOLKIT — recorded on a characterful ‘felted’ grand piano; and 2018’s ÓLAFUR ARNALDS CHAMBER EVOLUTIONS — introducing the BAFTA-winning Icelandic composer and producer’s signature ‘Waves’ strings samples that evolve beneath the player’s fingers, ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS stands out as Spitfire Audio’s fourth such collaboration, this time bringing about a brand-new, multidimensional instrument, based on Ólafur Arnalds’ acclaimed software: sophisticated MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Instrument) algorithms programmed to trigger patterns of notes on two identical self-playing pianos.
Put it this way: when acute nerve damage suffered following a car accident left him unable to play with his left hand, rather than giving up Ólafur Arnalds was musically motivated to develop intelligent custom software that could trigger self-playing, semi-generative ‘ghost’ pianos, and after spending two years experimenting with programmer Halldór Eldjárn to painstakingly perfect this technology, he incorporated it into his live show — playing an electronic keyboard on stage while his two identical pianos accompanied him to create a cascade of complementary notes and patterns, with each performance unique to each audience. As such, those Stratus pianos also played an integral part in the sound world of his acclaimed 2018 record, re:member. Remember, too, that Spitfire Audio ultimately used this model to create the highly-intuitive and interactive tool that became ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS, suitably enhanced with unique features, while recording full performances to capture the profoundly emotional, organic nature of the pianos themselves — instantly adding echoes of movement to anything played, pushing players to explore new possibilities.

Collectively captivated by this fantastic fusion of organic, emotive physicality and electronic innovation ingenuity, Spitfire Audio spent several weeks at Ólafur Arnalds’ awe-inspiring studio space in Reykjavik, Iceland capturing his unique-sounding Yamaha DU1E3 felt-dampened pianos in their natural habitat. However, rather than simply sampling single notes, the visiting sound-specialising British music technology company made full recordings of multitudes of polyrhythmic patterns and textures performed by both pianos, triggered simultaneously by algorithms, and carefully curated in close collaboration with Ólafur Arnalds himself. Having opted to close record them using vintage Neumann KM 83 and Coles microphones, plus pristine Millenia preamps, Spitfire Audio’s carefully captured results retained the beautiful resonances, and full dynamic and tonal range of Ólafur Arnalds’ distinctive-sounding pianos, brought to life by trailblazing technology.
Watch Ólafur Arnalds himself reveal the story behind ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS here:
The resulting ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS methodology makes it easy to create nuanced piano-based music from the most simplistic of arrangements. As such, simply holding down a note or chord can result in getting gloriously lost in inspiring unique clouds of harmonic refractions and rhythmic performances as they swell, evolve, and die away — and all at anyone’s fingertips. For those trying to create whatever musical mood they might have in mind, it offers a whole spectrum of emotion, derived from user input — from intimate loops, swells, and textures to intricate rhythms falling like rain, and dreamy, expansive soundscapes.
So how, exactly, does ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS do what it is that it does so well? Well, simply speaking, it works by taking a single note and repeating it according to a curated rhythm, splitting the rhythm between the two self-playing pianos while at the same time relocating the note up or down the octave based on a curated level of randomness that chooses whether or not the octave should jump.
Watch Spitfire Audio co-founder and composer Paul Thomson’s ‘traditional’ walkthrough of ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS here:
Whereas Spitfire Audio’s acclaimed Evo Grid technology — implemented so successfully in so many of its sample-based virtual instruments libraries — is triggered by note range, ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS introduces a bespoke interface featuring eight 8x8 instrument matrixes complete with up to five Z-Axis layers — namely, 01A MATRIX - RHYTHMIC WAVES (tempo-synced rhythms with a gradual attack/swell); 01B MATRIX - RHYTHMIC ATTACKS (tempo-synced rhythms with a strong attack); 02 MATRIX - LOOPED RHYTHMS (tempo-synced loops); 03 MATRIX - SWARMS (non tempo-synced swarm-like textures); 04 SYNTH MATRIX - LOOPED RHYTHMS; 05 SYNTH MATRIX - SWARMS; 06 SYNTH MATRIX - LOOPED RHYTHMS: SHORTS 1; and 07 SYNTH MATRIX - LOOPED RHYTHMS: SHORTS 2.
Although all are specially curated by Ólafur Arnalds himself, the user controls how these combinations of harmonic elements develop — both by what they play, and with extensive built-in customisation options, as well as a comprehensive range of effects, including CONV. (convolution) REVERB, DELAY, FILTER, and TAPE SAT. (saturation). The first four (piano-based) matrixes capture the stunning organic sounds of Ólafur Arnalds’ pianos, panned across the stereo field — Stratus Piano - Centre, Stratus Piano - Left, and Stratus Piano - Right — to give a true representation of the pianos in their space, seamlessly blended into one, while the other four (synthesiser-based) matrixes employ the same technology to create similar patterns, with stunning tempo-locked rhythmic loops made using Olafur Arnalds’ classic Korg PS-3100 — a monstrous 48-note polyphonic, patchable analogue rarity — and dreamy swarm-like textures from his beloved Juno-60 programmable analogue polysynth. The Randomise bar features experimental controls to further randomise ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS’ behaviour, taking advantage of the library’s generative nature.

Needless to say, Spitfire Audio being Spitfire Audio, that’s not all. Augmenting that bespoke Stratus user interface — designed for the selection and playback of samples on a per-voice basis — is the sound-specialising British music technology company’s tried and tested Mercury marvel, another ingenious interface including a range of organic sounds and specially curated warped sounds (WARPS). With that in mind, all controls therein are assignable to external control surfaces, so users can quickly make Spitfire Audio’s already created sounds their own.
Lose track of time while watching Spitfire Audio’s awe-inspiring trailer video for ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS sympathetically scored by ‘composer-in-residence’ Homay Schmitz here:
On the face of it, then, ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS’ versatility lends itself to solo compositions, as well as adding texture and unpredictable elements to orchestral libraries, and complementing the libraries in Spitfire Audio’s acclaimed ÓLAFUR ARNALDS... series. All are a must-have for musicians and composers looking to create beautiful, progressive, hybrid ensemble music influenced by the Scandi Noir movement. Making room on a hard drive for ÓLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS is like rooming at Ólafur Arnalds’ awe-inspiring studio space and invading the keen experimenter and innovator’s headspace — albeit without travelling to Reykjavik, inspirational in itself as it undoubtedly is!
