The Tim Armstrong Anniversary Hellcat is faithfully based on Armstrong’s own instrument originally from the 1960s – the Fender concert-style acoustic he always turned to for songwriting inspiration.  It features upgraded modern specs including a solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, maple “C” shape neck, high quality onboard electronics, gold hardware and Tim’s signature “Hellcat and double skulls” inlay. This gloss black finish guitar also boasts a Fishman® Preamp with tuner to give peerless amplified acoustic performance.

Watch Tim in action on his Anniversary Hellcat performing two great hits including “East Bay Night”, which was performed bayside at the Albany Bulb with Matt Freeman, Tim’s childhood best friend and founding member of Operation Ivy and Rancid.

In addition, “Telegraph Avenue”, which was performed at the exact address by Tim on his own as a throwback to his days of living and busking on Telegraph.

“Tim Armstrong is one of punks’ true guitar greats,” said Billy Martinez, VP Acoustic & Squier Divisions. “He has been an integral part in shaping the sound of American punk rock in the 1990s and his legacy is a true testament to his achievements as a guitarist. It is with huge pleasure for Fender to have worked with Tim for ten years and what better way to celebrate than by introducing our best-ever Hellcat to-date.”

“The Tim Armstrong Anniversary Hellcat is the culmination of a decade of great work with Fender,” said Tim Armstrong. “This model is very loyal to the original guitar I’ve had since I was a teenager and it played a starring role in many of my albums, shows and songwriting sessions. I can’t wait to see what it can do and inspire in the hands of other players around the world.”

Born in Oakland, California, Tim Armstrong is best known as the singer and guitarist of influential ska punk band Operation Ivy and American punk band Rancid which he formed in 1991. He spent the decade at the forefront of a burgeoning American punk rock scene, spawning platinum-selling albums including …And Out Come the Wolves and his achievements did not stop there. Armstrong has since proved his mettle as an industry-leading and genre-defying songwriter having written with the likes of P!NK, Joe Walsh and Jimmy Cliff (with whom he even won a Grammy® Award for Best Reggae Album) and established himself as a well-respected producer and independent record label owner.

In true tradition, the Fender Artist Signature Series honours iconic musicians through product progression and storytelling, creating instruments inspired by the unique specifications of the world’s greatest guitarists and bassists. Fender discusses the all-new Tim Armstrong Anniversary Hellcat specs and all details in an episode of Fender's serialised social video series: Fender Demos. Fender Demos is an educational video series focused on providing a deep dive into Fender’s newest products. The series focuses on showcasing not only the key features and benefits, but also the sonic quality of Fender’s instruments, amplifiers and pedals. Mesa/Boogie is one of the most respected and prestigious brands in sound and guitar amplification--to their family of brands. Mesa/Boogie--the original “Boutique” amplifier company--was founded 51 years ago by Randy Smith, who is responsible for creating the ground-breaking circuits that drive some of the most influential sounds of our time. Randy will join Gibson as Master Designer and Pioneer of Mesa/Boogie and beyond. In his new role, Randy will continue his passion for tube technology and his vision for building hand-crafted, high performance amplifiers, that continue to redefine how we experience sound across Mesa/Boogie and Gibson.
Beginning in a converted dog kennel under the redwoods of Northern California, Randy Smith was wrenching amplifiers for all the great San Francisco area bands over 50 years ago when vintage gear was new. Being close to so many great guitar players, from Bloomfield to Santana and The Rolling Stones, Smith learned the virtues and shortcomings of the era’s gear and began a process of innovation that continues today. Mesa/Boogie, the company Smith founded, was the first boutique amplifier builder and revolutionized amplifier performance in ways that impacted rock music worldwide. Simultaneously respecting and improving the vintage classics he grew up with, Smith, through Mesa/Boogie pioneered the invention of High Gain.
“At Gibson we are all about leveraging our iconic past and leaning into the innovative future, a quest that started over 100 years ago with our founder Orville Gibson,” says James ‘JC’ Curleigh, President & CEO of Gibson Brands. “Today this quest continues with the addition of Mesa Boogie into the Gibson Brands family, along with the visionary leadership of Randy Smith and his Team who, for the past 50 years, have created an iconic and innovative brand that has stood the test of time. This is a perfect partnership based on our collective professional experiences and passion for sound.”
“I’m 75 years-old and still at work every day,” says Randy Smith founder of Mesa/Boogie. “This is my art and many of our crew have worked along my side for 30 to 40 years. As we witnessed JC and Cesar transform Gibson, we saw kindred spirits sharing common values and a fierce dedication to quality. Today, Gibson’s guitars are the best-ever and when they asked if we’d like to become Gibson’s Custom Shop for Amplifiers, we envisioned a perfect collaboration that would expand our outreach while preserving our legacy beyond my time. Gibson realizes the unique value of what we’ve all built together and this next chapter in the Mesa/Boogie story is a continuation of that dream. I am so fortunate for this partnership with the new Gibson after 50 years of doing what I love. It’s been the ride of my life . . . and it ain’t over yet!”
      Randy Smith, Founder of Mesa/Boogie.
“Mesa Boogie, led by Randy, has been in service to sound without compromises since the very beginning, and that’s a perfect fit for us,” adds Cesar Gueikian of Gibson Brands. “We are looking forward to being the best custodians of Mesa Boogie’s iconic heritage that we can be, and at the same time, a steward of its future. We are honored that Randy and the Mesa Boogie team have trusted us to lead Mesa Boogie into the future. Together, we will continue to pursue our mutual quest of sound, quality and craftsmanship and to push the boundaries of how guitar sound is delivered and experienced.”
“This is very exciting, I can’t think of a better company to carry the Mesa Boogie torch, and I can’t wait to see what we can do together,” says Adam Jones, guitarist for the multi-platinum and multiple GRAMMY-Award winning band Tool. “I have been using Mesa Boogie amplifiers and cabinets for a long time. I use them at home, in the studio when I record and on stage when I play live; they go across all of my needs.”
“I’ve been using Gibson guitars together with Mesa/Boogie amps onstage with the Roots for well over a decade,” says Captain Kirk Douglas, guitarist for the legendary, multiple GRAMMY-Award winning hip-hop group The Roots. “Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of home recording with my Mesa Boogies; it’s exciting to see the two brands joining collaborative forces.”

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) today released the new Brad Paisley Signature Esquire®, in collaboration with the multiple-Grammy®-Award-winning country music superstar. Over the course of the guitar brand’s nearly 75-year history, the Fender Esquire® has been used by generations of country musicians who prized its approachability and uncompromising tone. With his second Signature guitar, Fender honors both the storied history of the beloved model and a man who has made the Esquire iconic to fans of modern country music. Brad Paisley has used the Esquire® guitars tried-and-true sound throughout a decades-long career which includes three Grammy® awards, 24 No. 1 hits and over 3.9 billion on-demand streams making him the perfect partner for Fender to celebrate this guitar anniversary with.
“The Esquire® is a streamlined, working-man’s guitar,” said Paisley. “It’s really important to me that you hear an echo of the past in the stuff that I do, and in that sense, this guitar encompasses what I try to do musically. It has a retro feel, but at the same time, it’s progressive, with a new style of pickup that hasn’t been done before.”
The signature twang of the Esquire® and its later iteration, the Telecaster®, have been heard on countless country albums and have helped to define the sound of the genre. In this spirit, the Brad Paisley Signature Esquire® takes the elements that have made the guitar a staple and provides subtle upgrades to bring this iconic model into the future. Historically, the Esquire® model is known for featuring a single pick-up; making it perfect for country artists like Brad Paisley, as well as those seeking an affordable, but professional instrument at the outset of their career. In order to maintain this upstart spirit of the Esquire while giving musicians a greater sonic range, Fender has added a Seymour Duncan® Brad Paisley Signature “Secret Agent” neck pickup. This pickup is hidden under a pickguard adorned in a custom paisley pattern — keeping the image of the instrument intact while delivering a robust palette of sounds.

“We view our Artist Signature Series as a significant way to honor the sound, style and talents of the artists who have made Fender who we are today,” said Justin Norvell, EVP, Fender Products. “The creation of this guitar was driven by two amazing stories. One is the story of a nearly 75 year-old guitar made for professional players that still is heard today on hit records. And alongside it is Brad’s story; taking the elements of classical country music and continuing delivering hit after hit in the modern era. With Brad’s suggestion to add the hidden pickup that opens up new sounds while keeping its traditional stripped-down nature, this guitar tells both of these stories. Anyone who purchases one can help write the next chapter.”
“At Fender, we remain dedicated to supporting country music and the Nashville guitar community,” said Ben Blanc-Dumont, Director of Artist Marketing for Fender in Nashville. “In addition to being one of the most influential artists in country music’s history, Brad Paisley is also one of the most-respected guitar players in the world. Working with Brad on his Fender signature models is always an incredible process;  he is so focused on getting every little detail right, not only to match his musical vision, but also for all kinds of guitarists - from aspiring players to professionals.”
The Brad Paisley Signature Esquire® features a lightweight Paulownia body with Spruce top and back, finished in a stunning black sparkle and given a RoadWorn® treatment for a vintage look and feel. The maple neck with 9.5” radius fingerboard improves the playability over previous Esquire® guitars but features a classic V-shaped profile in a nod to the guitar’s heritage. American Professional compensated saddles in a vintage bridge show an attention to detail and quality, while the black paisley-patterned nods to the artist’s influence. And of course, the Seymour Duncan® Brad Paisley Signature “Secret Agent” neck pickup maintains the aggressive spirit of the original Esquire®, while giving the players tone options never before heard in the model.
In true tradition, the Fender® Artist Signature Series honors iconic musicians through product progression and storytelling, creating instruments inspired by the unique specifications of the world’s greatest guitarists and bassists. Paisley himself discusses the all-new Brad Paisley Signature Esquire® specs, his playing style, technique and more.
